"Never work with children and animals"
21.11.09 | (unless it's for fun)
Not sure whether today was really about selling knitwear - more sheepish education and children's entertainer as everyone on our street put on a bit of festive cheer as Todmorden's Christmas lights were turned on.
According to my tally by the end of the day over 70 children had filled their tiny hands with ewe mix and proffered it to Daisy Mae and Vita, with varying degrees of success. It's lovely to see shy children try it out - and most children squeal a bit as the sheep nibble the ewe mix from their palms. Then become increasingly comfortable and have to be stopped from shoveling handfuls into greedy ewes in excitement. Obviously they then had to go through hand-washing and a few children seemed to feed the sheep just to get to wash their hands - puzzling!
It did rain - although not as badly as the torrential forecast - and we were all very pleased to get back to our respective homes. Daisy Mae and Vita were bottle fed as lambs so are very tame - even so a pen in a street in Todmorden isn't the same as their grassy field.
